SANDRA ARMENTA

Sandra Armenta's life story is deeply intertwined with the city of Rosemead, where she has proudly resided for over four decades.

Born and raised in Rosemead, she embarked on her educational journey within the community, attending Savannah Elementary, Muscatel Jr. High School, and ultimately graduating from Rosemead High School.

Her pursuit of higher education led her to the University of La Verne, where she earned a Bachelor's degree and teaching credential. Sandra's roots in Rosemead are profoundly ingrained, as she actively participated in the city's Parks and Recreation programs during her formative years. Remarkably, she later became part of the Parks and Recreation Department, contributing to the programs that had once shaped her youth. She carries a profound sense of pride in her identity as a genuine Rosemead native, symbolizing her enduring connection to the community.

Experience

During my tenure on the City Council, we successfully achieved a balanced budget while expanding services, increasing park and recreation spaces, and completing crucial infrastructure improvements. Notably, we initiated key projects, including the Splash Zone at Garvey Park, the Aquatic Center at Rosemead Park, the Skate Park at Rosemead Park, and enhanced walking trails at our parks. We also constructed a new restroom at Garvey Park and carried out renovations at the Garvey Gym and Rosemead Park restroom.

Our diligent financial stewardship led to Rosemead being ranked as the #1 city for Financial Stability in the San Gabriel Valley in 2019 and #14 in the entire state of California. I've had the privilege of serving on several boards, including the role of President for the CA Contract Cities Association, Trustee for the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Board, and Director for Los Angeles County Sanitation. Additionally, I've been appointed as Mayor three times by my council colleagues.

I played a pivotal role in establishing the Beautification Committee, which has since evolved into a Commission. I was also a founding member of CONNECTIONS, a vital initiative dedicated to addressing youth drug, alcohol, and gang involvement.

DEDICATION

Sandra's remarkable and extensive history of community involvement predates her election to the City Council in March 2009, reflecting a deep-seated commitment to the betterment of her community.

Her journey as a dedicated advocate for civic pride and public participation began long before her political career. Sandra actively engaged in various youth groups and community-based activities, consistently demonstrating her unwavering dedication to uplifting the community. This early involvement not only highlighted her passion for community service but also set the stage for her future endeavors.

In addition to her community work, Sandra's impressive background as both a Special Education and General Education teacher spans over two decades, encompassing students from kindergarten to high school. During her tenure as an educator, Sandra often encountered parents who faced challenges in navigating the complex educational landscape, particularly when it came to understanding available resources and support systems.

In response to these challenges, Sandra took it upon herself to work closely with these families, providing invaluable guidance and ensuring they were well-informed about their rights and had access to the essential resources they needed. Her hands-on experience as an advocate for these families not only deepened her commitment to community service but also served as a powerful catalyst for her eventual election to the City Council.

Sandra's multifaceted background, encompassing her longstanding involvement in community initiatives and her extensive career in education, uniquely positions her as a dedicated and empathetic public servant. Her journey is a testament to her unwavering dedication to enhancing the lives of those in her community and her unrelenting commitment to civic betterment.

In 2020, Mayor Sandra Armenta of Rosemead issued a statement expressing solidarity with the Armenian people and recognizing the Armenian Genocide. The observance of the victims takes place annually on April 24th, observed as Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. There is ongoing advocacy for official recognition of the Armenian Genocide by governments and international bodies, as it is considered a crucial step in acknowledging historical truth and preventing future genocides. Education plays a vital role in ensuring that people are informed about the Armenian Genocide, with schools, museums, and educational institutions contributing significantly to this effort. Additionally, there are endeavors to document and preserve the stories and testimonies of survivors and their descendants to ensure that the memory of the Armenian Genocide endures
